Liverpool Model Boat Club launched in the early 70s, but members still meet twice a week
At the heart of Newsham Park you will find a small club that meets twice every week and has been doing so for the last 50 years. What started out as a hobby for Mike Broadbent has now become a way of life.
Speaking to the ECHO, Mike said: "I've been in the club since the beginning, I used to come here as a child and sail boats with my father. That's how the club started with people coming down to the lake joining in and it grew from there. "Some members have physical problems so we all help one another. We ring each other through the week to see how we are and for a chat. For me, it's something I like doing. I like building and making boats, it's a hobby I've done since I was about 10.
