“Coming back into that dressing room won’t faze him, and part of the reason England will be so keen to bring him back isn’t just because he’s a bloody good cricketer” 🎙️ Richedwards0803 interviews SharpyKev0604 – Moeen Ali’s former head coach

His decision to step back into the England Test fold also gives him the opportunity to join an elite list of players who have scored 3000 Test runs and taken 200 Test wickets – he currently has 2914 and 195 respectively.

He batted at six in that Test at Lord’s but has occupied pretty much every spot in this England batting line-up since.Sharp, though, argues it’s an illustration of his willingness to put the team’s needs ahead of his own throughout his career.“But he developed so quickly as a bowler that his batting became almost his second string. People don’t really talk about Moeen being one of England’s greatest all-rounders but, for me, he’s up there – his record speaks for itself.

“I spent most of my career at three or four and found it really hard when I dropped down to number six. Well, Moeen has pretty much been everywhere in this England side and has always put the needs of the team above his own. You stick him at number eight in this current team and that batting order looks very long indeed.”

Just 20 of his 195 Test scalps have come against the Aussies, and those have come at a sky-high rate of over 65.
