King Charles III confided in Prime Minister Liz Truss and promised to ‘try and keep everything going’ as he met with her for the first time.
The new king and new prime minister exchanged pleasantries before holding a private audience
Ms Truss travelled to Buckingham Palace after Charles arrived in London from Scotland, where he had flown to be with his mother in her final hours. After thanking and shaking hands with visitors, he was kissed on the right hand by one woman and on the cheek by another who appeared visibly saddened.the King also gave his first address to the nation‘Throughout her life, Her Majesty The Queen – my beloved mother – was an inspiration and example to me and to all my family, and we owe her the most heartfelt debt any family can owe to their mother.
A detailed royal protocal launched after the Queen’s death has left Charles with very little time for personal mourning.
