A more realistic target for visitor numbers has been set
More than 20,000 people have passed through the gates of Nottingham Castle since it reopened under Nottingham City Council ’s control on June 26. A three-year restoration project of the historic site, costing more than £30m, was completed in 2021.
At the time Sara Blair-Manning, the former chief executive, said it had been anticipated the coronavirus>Covid pandemic would prove a challenge to visitor numbers. Despite this a target of 300,000 visitors a year was set following the trust’s re-opening, but after the first eight months, only 100,000 people had been welcomed. Then, in November 2022, the site suddenly closed after the trust collapsed.
On Monday , the council was asked for a specific breakdown of the numbers, including the number of £12 annual passes sold, as well as a daily visitor number, however this has not yet been provided.
