'We are suffering a lot, especially the children as they don’t have any clothes,' Lhcen Assmid told i as he said two more tremors had been felt in his region

“We desperately need safe housing as we are sleeping in the open and in the cold. We need help to rebuild our destroyed homes.”

He added that despite the “psychological suffering” in his community, he had not yet received help from the Moroccan government, although aid workers have been attempting to deliver assistance on the ground. He noted that people were clearly traumatised. “There aren’t any facial expressions when they are talking,” he said. “The villages have no soul anymore.”

The man said he was ready to meet death for the 30 seconds the earthquake lasted, determined not to leave the house until it was over. “The electricity went out and all was dark,” he said. “[The house] is all destroyed and cracked. Now, we live here [outside his house with blankets]. We eat, drink and sleep here.”
