Is RAF Scampton safe for migrants? MP Sir Edward Leigh raises concerns over the site
Gainsborough MP Sir Edward Leigh has raised concerns over radioactivity at RAF Scamtpon as he continues to oppose asylum camp plans.
Sir Leigh read testimony from a Cold War RAF veteran who spent nine years servicing Vulcan B.2 bombers at the base, raising concerns about radiation. He later contended that the government should recognise that RAF Scampton is a"far more complicated" site than initially thought, and should abandon the asylum centre plans.
"If our court case fails, and somehow the Home Office is allowed to advance with its proposals, we will need to see how much of the site can be freed up as soon as possible. The Home Office wants to use only 8% of the footprint. Following a recent hearing at London's Royal Courts of Justice, West Lindsey District Council has been granted permission to apply for a judicial review of the Home Office's plans.
