💬 'There were people on the floor being sick. It was absolute carnage there' The daughter of an elderly patient describes her father's 14-hour wait for treatment in an overcrowded A&E:
Claire Cooper took her father Brian Jenkins, 81, by car to hison 29 December after concerns he was no longer able to stand and was in pain due to a foot injury.
He was booked into the A&E department at The Grange University Hospital in Wales at 3.20pm but it wasn’t until 5.20am the following day that: “It was 14 hours in the A&E waiting room before he was seen by anyone. But I felt like we were lucky, there were people who had been there the complete day waiting to be seen.
“Somebody had a seizure in the waiting area and they had to have a crash team take them away. There were people on the floor being sick. It was absolute carnage there.”record numbers attended A&E departments in recent days, leading medics and health bosses have warned.according to anecdotal evidence from trust leaders, while the Society for Acute Medicine said the NHS has “never been in a position like this leading into a new year”.
Mr Jenkins had been seen by a district nurse on 27 December who expressed concern about one of his toes, which had become swollen and discoloured. He has diabetes and vascular problems. Two days later, he was no long able to stand and was in considerable pain and so it was decided he should go to hospital.
