The university experience during these tumultuous times has been riddled with setbacks and disappointments, prompting us to question why our aspirations have become collateral damage in this struggle 🖋️ emily_cbell for ipaperviews

I received my dissertation grade after the university’s results return deadline, through an email notification. It came with no clarity on who had assessed my work or the process they had used, or any feedback. As for my poetry portfolio, I may have to wait until October before I know my grade.

While my frustration is not directed at the striking lecturers, many of us are sick of being caught in the crossfire. I understand that it’s important for university staff to strike for better working conditions and pay. Still, I can’t help but feel confused and hurt because we students are the ones suffering.

We tried to glean what we could from hearsay, comments made to individual students and screenshotted messages – but we were also nervous about sharing this information, in case we got our teachers into trouble. My peers and I are hurting. On the day of our graduation, I spoke to numerous individuals who expressed disbelief, stating that the day didn’t feel “real” or “didn’t live up to expectations”. They voiced their anger at the university for allowing this situation to transpire.
