'My 17-year-old son told me he loved me and went out for a drink - he never came home'
Tracy Marsland's eyes fill with tears as she recalls her teenage son's final words to her, a conversation that will forever be etched into her mind.
On the day before his body was found, groundworker Callum finished work early and met up with his girlfriend. He then returned home to get ready for a night out with friends. "He has never stayed out overnight without telling me. He would always ring and say he was on his way back because he knows I worried. That night, there was nothing."
Three men, aged 33, 25 and 16, were arrested on suspicion of murder while two women, aged 34 and 18, were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. All five have since been released on bail. A vigil took place in Heywood and hundreds of people lined the streets of the town ahead of his funeral. Ms Marsland said she was 'blown away' by the love and support she received following her son's death, including from the charity Restoring Hope."Callum was extremely popular. I don't think you'll find anybody in Heywood that hasn't got something nice thing to say about him.
Callum's death has devastated his loved ones, including his grandmother Sue with whom he had a close bond, and Ms Marsland said she had even considered 'giving up' her cancer treatment.
