FOSTER and kinship carers in Scotland will receive a national allowance so that young people in their care benefit from the same experiences as their peers.
Children’s organisations have welcomed the move, particularly in the midst of the cost of living crisis.The agreement with the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities means all local authorities must pay the set weekly rate of £168.31 for children up to four, £195.81 for five to 10-year-olds and 11 to 15-year-olds, and £268.41 for those aged 16 and over.
“This support will benefit thousands of families, helping them to provide the standard of living and wellbeing that the children and young people in their care deserve and can be used to cover the costs of things like clothing, hobbies, activities and school trips. “This is especially important at the moment given the impact of the cost-of-living crisis and we know financial support is a key aspect in enabling carers to provide a high standard of care to help children achieve their full potential.”
