The officer suffered life-changing injuries while trying to save a distressed man

Almost £40,000 has been raised for a brave Nottinghamshire Police officer who was left with life-changing injuries while in the line of duty. The officer is in a critical condition at Queen's Medical Centre after he was hit by a train while attempting to save a distressed man on the railway lines in Balderton.

A fundraising page, which was set up to raise money for the police officer and his family, has reached more than £35,000 in a matter of days. The creator of the fundraiser wrote: "This is an appeal to the community in order to assist the injured police officer and his family following a terrible ordeal whereby an officer has sustained life altering injuries in the line of duty whilst saving the life of another individual."This is the epitome of policing bravery.

Balderton residents spoke of their shock, with many upset to hear that the police officer was so badly hurt whilst trying to help someone else. Chief Constable Kate Meynell said: "This is a truly devastating incident that has left one of our officers very poorly in hospital. "I would like to personally thank them for their quick and dedicated response to this incident. Officers and police staff put themselves in danger every day to keep the public safe and from harm and I personally want to say how eternally grateful and proud I am of them all."
