The blaze broke out this morning
Three fire engines, paramedics and police rushed to Churchill Street, in Heaton Norris, just before 7.30am today to tackle the blaze. Such was the intensity of the fire, several neighbours were evacuated.
By mid-morning, the death of a man had been confirmed by the police. A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police later confirmed an 'elderly male' had passed away in the fire.A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service added: "Shortly before 7.30am this morning three fire engines from Whitehill, Stockport and Offerton fire stations were called to attend a house fire on Churchill Street, Heaton Norris.
"Crews arrived quickly, evacuated adjacent properties and extinguished the fire using four breathing apparatus, two hose reels and positive pressure ventilation.” Shortly after midday, a private ambulance arrived at the scene to take the body of the man away, with a file expected to be prepared for the coroner. It is understood the deceased male was aged 70.
