A £53 million road which it is claimed will spare a village daily traffic chaos has opened to cars for the first time 🚗
It alleviates the need for traffic travelling between east Cheshire and south Manchester, Stockport and the airport to pass through the centre of Poynton where for decades locals have complained of daily congestion.
The two-way single-carriageway road - named Roy Chadwick Way after the legendary aircraft engineer - was. However, for the weekend it was opened just to pedestrians and cyclists before it was opened to traffic this morning . And vehicles were this evening taking their first rush-hour journeys down the 3.5km long road which runs from the A555 Aiport Relief Road in Stockport to Adlington where it joins London Road at a new roundabout junction.Cars on the road for the first time today . It has a 3.5 metre wide designated walking and cycling path alongside it accessed at the Stockport end off Chester Road in Woodford.
