Fire, ambulance and rail workers will be subject to new “minimum safety levels” to curb strikes which are crippling the country and the Government will be able to sue them if they do not comply.
They will instead attempt to reach voluntary agreements for nurses and other health workers, teachers and other education staff, nuclear decommissioning workers, border guards, and other transport staff. At the same time, the Government has urged unions to call off strikes and agree to talks with senior ministers to discuss the pay settlements for next year .on Thursday, ministers want to discuss next year’s pay review process, which is expected to recommend higher settlements and could be sped up in a bid to persuade unions to call off further industrial action.
Business Secretary Grant Shapps said: “We hugely value the work of our public services and we’re reaching out to unions to have an honest conversation on pay, conditions and reform.
