A new online petition is calling on the UK Government to “treat all disabled people equally, and exempt people on Attendance Allowance from vehicle tax”.
Petition creator, Mark Bailey, said that the “system needs to be fairer and not ageist” arguing that the UK Government is “discriminating against the elderly”.
The benefit supports people with a disability, long-term illness and mental or physical health issues, but it does not include a mobility component which is only available to those on disability benefits such as Personal Independence Payment , Disability Living Allowance , Adult Disability Payment and Child Disability Payment .
Mr Bailey’s petition states: “Disabled people are exempt from vehicle tax if they receive Disability Living Allowance or Personal Independence Payment, but not if they receive Attendance Allowance . Treat all disabled people equally, and exempt people on Attendance Allowance from vehicle tax.
