The new gym, with an emphasis on strength training, will boost physical and mental health, says the man behind the proposals.

Plans have been approved for a change of use to a unit in Wreck Road where the new gym will be based.

He said in his supporting statement: “Girvan is a small town and the proposed gym is within easy walking distance of anywhere within the town. “The only other gym that might be in the town centre is within The Quay Zone, a leisure centre consisting of a pool, gym, exercise studio, children’s play area and cafe.

“The benefits of strength training are very well documented not only improving physical health, but also provide positive mental health benefits. The proposals state the gym will be open from 7am until 10pm Monday to Saturday and 8am to 10pm on a Sunday. “The applicant has outlined within their supporting statement that the application site has been selected due to the concrete floor within the property, which was not found in locations within Girvan down centre, as well as the outdoor area of hardstanding.
