One person suggested a shop where you can paint pottery
People living in Clifton say there are too many takeaways as plans for signs for another one were submitted in a unit that was last occupied by an estate agent. The application for signage for a pizza takeaway has been submitted for the old Thomas James building at 164-168 Southchurch Drive.
Cara Fowler, 34, has lived in Clifton for two years. She said: “I don’t think a takeaway is the right answer and it might not do well here rather than the more central part of Southchurch Drive.“I’m a nurse and of course, I have a takeaway every now and again but I’m never thrilled when more come to the area, it’s unhealthy. I personally don’t think a pizza takeaway would benefit the area, we have too many takeaways.
Georgina Bowan, who is 82 and has lived in the area off and on since she was 11, said: “It’s all pizzas or phone shops, we need something better than that. I don’t know what I’d like to see but not another takeaway.” As well as health concerns there is also a feeling that a new takeaway could increase anti-social behaviour in the area. Julie Danby, 56, said: "It's stereotypical but we just don't want kids in the area that don't have anything to do to have somewhere else to hang around. I'm not saying they'll be up to no good but these takeaways generally open at night."
