Around 12 million people are expected to submit a Self Assessment tax return before January 31, 2024.

Millions of people completing a Self Assessment tax return are being urged to lookout for scam texts, emails and phone calls from fraudsters. The new warning comes after HM Revenue and Customs announced it received more than 130,000 reports about tax scams in the 12 months to September 2023.

Some 60,000 people reported phone scams to HMRC in the last year which resulted in 25,000 malicious web pages being taken down.
