The Blackhawks have a layup at the top of the 2023 draft — Connor Bedard will be heading to Chicago. But what happens after him? coreypronman and The Athletic's NHL writers select players for each of the lottery teams:
The Coyotes are uniquely positioned in this year’s draft as the only team with two picks in the front half of the first round. That also positions them as one of the teams most likely to take a defenseman near the top of the draft, especially after using top picks on forwards Logan Cooley, Conor Geekie and Dylan Guenther in recent years.
After picking in later stages of the first round for the past eight years, the Caps finally got the opportunity to add a projected top-of-the-lineup talent to a prospect pool lacking in that department. They can’t miss on this one and, thus, it wouldn’t surprise me to see them make the safe pick in Dvorsky, a 6-foot-1, 201-pound Slovak center who finished the season as the No. 3-ranked European skater by Central Scouting behind Leo Carlsson and Matvei Michkov.

NHL Draft Lottery: Who will land Bedard? This is it. This is the moment we find out, at long last, where top prospect Connor Bedard will play. Will he join Trevor Zegras with the Anaheim Ducks? Or perhaps Johnny Gaudreau with the Columbus Blue Jackets? Will he be the cornerstone of a new Chicago Blackhawks dynasty as Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews once were? Or will it be another one of the 11 possible teams with a chance at the top pick? The team that receives the No. 1 pick will be rewarded with Bedard, that much is certain. But there's plenty of talent to go around, particularly at the top, to make the first few picks more than a simple consolation prize: Adam Fantilli, Matvei Michkov, Leo Carlsson and Will Smith round out a very strong projected top five.
