🔴 New 48-hour walkout in England by Royal College of Nursing from 30 April to 2 May will be without exemptions – meaning there will be reduced nursing staff in intensive care, cancer wards and A&E departments for the first time

A little more than half of Royal College of Nursing members who, is a blow to ministers and RCN general secretary Pat Cullen, who had recommended to her members to back the deal, after weeks of strike action and hard-fought negotiations.– meaning only around a third of all RCN members have rejected the pay deal.

The escalation of strike action will put pressure on ministers to come up with a new pay deal – but government sources have made clear there is little chance of reopening the offer.pay deal, members of Unison – the largest union representing more than a third of all workers on the Agenda for Change contract – voted overwhelmingly in favour of the settlement, with 74 per cent for the deal.

Yet given that only 33 per cent of all RCN members rejected the deal, and the fact that it is likely to be approved at the NHS staff council, the prospects of future strike action beyond the beginning of May appear uncertain. “Since our talks in February, we have seen the pressures on the NHS continue to increase. The crisis in our health and care services cannot be addressed without significant action that addresses urgent recruitment and retention issues and nursing pay to bring this dispute to a close urgently.
