'We propose LCCC actively participates in local Pride events to demonstrate the council's visible support for the LGBTQ+ community'
A Northern Ireland council is to consider participating in LGBTQ+ events following criticism of a lack of diversity support in its district.
At the time, then SDLP Cllr Simon Lee slated the council stating it had "no public events to celebrate the LGBTQ+ community" with a missed opportunity to direct the diversity money.Castlereagh South Sinn Fein rep, Daniel Bassett putting forward a motion this week, said: "This motion recognises the significance of inclusivity and diversity within our community.
"We propose LCCC actively participates in local Pride events to demonstrate the council's visible support for the LGBTQ+ community and identifies areas to display LGBTQ+ Pride symbols in appropriate public spaces. DUP council mayor, Andrew Gowan sent the motion to the corporate committee "without debate" in the chamber.
