'Even in today’s society there is a lot of misunderstanding and a lack of awareness with regards to the impact Tourette’s syndrome has on an individual and their wider circle.'
Northern Ireland is set to host to the first event that aims to shine a light on a condition that's still very much misunderstood.
There is currently no cure for the condition, but treatments may be recommended to help control the tics. These treatments involve behavioural therapy and medication. "What we have learned from our families is that there is no clear diagnosis or treatment plan as the majority of families receive their diagnosis and discharge on the same day.
Louise has also praised singer Lewis Capaldi for helping to shine a light on the condition, having been diagnosed with Tourette's in his mid-20s. Earlier this year, the Scottish singer and songwriter announced an indefinite break from touring to focus on his health following a Glastonbury Festival performance where his fans joined in when his Tourette’s symptoms took over.
