'Our members' confidence in the EA's capacity to handle the ongoing crisis has plummeted to an unprecedented low.'

With the new school term only weeks away, a group of parents have hit out at "the lack of progress" in providing placements for children with special educational needs due to start school this September.

A petition has also been launched by the group calling for reform of SEN services, which has so far received over 15,000 signatures. They added: "You also provided us with the assurance that all children with SEN statements would be appropriately placed for P1, given its statutory mandate. However, media reports suggest otherwise, and placement challenges also seem to affect children at more advanced educational levels.

"Conversely, there have been cases where the EA informs parents of an allocation, only for the educational provider to report no knowledge of it. This lack of coordination between the EA and educational providers has only deepened parents' confusion, disappointment, and distress."
