'I get more strength from my son - watching his determination, his motivation to beat this - I step back and say 'you're inspiring me'.'

A Derry schoolboy who broke his back after falling from a swing in a playpark is "determined to walk again", his father has said after a month in hospital.

Mr Lynch said that, despite some "down days" when he misses his twin brother Connor, his son remains in "good spirits" and has set an "ultimate goal" of returning to play for Sean Dolan's GAC. "What normally happens is that they [the vertebrae] pull apart and overlap but his didn't, his crushed together and pushed right back into his body.

"After the MRI the consultants came over and said he's going straight in in the morning. On the Sunday morning - the accident was on the Saturday - he was straight down at 9 oclock for a four-hour operation. They put metal rods and screws into his back to sort of ease the pressure on the spine and stabilise him.

Mr Lynch said there is "always somebody" from the family staying with Adam in hospital, despite the travel from Derry."Adam is in really good spirits, he's really determined that he is going to walk again, nothing is going to stop him," he explained.
