Angela Taylor has spoken about why she is volunteering with Cancer Focus NI after the support they gave her during her breast cancer treatment
A Carrickfergus woman has spoken of her tough journey through breast cancer treatment and how she celebrated its end by running a 10K in Belfast.
Speaking to Belfast Live, Angela said that during her treatment, "everything that could go wrong went wrong" and she was very thankful to be looked after by such caring doctors and nurses through her ordeal. "A few days after this I discovered that the cancer had spread to other parts of my breast and I was now looking at a mastectomy alongside my chemo and radiotherapy, which started three weeks after my diagnosis.
"The recovery from that was very tough and half way through it all I completely broke down and felt that I couldn't do it anymore. But shortly after this I started to get out walking and started counselling sessions which helped me so much and helped me to keep going. "I was so thankful for their help I started volunteering with them at one of their stores last year and even this helped me through my recovery as I started socialising more with people after being isolated for so long and it has become so important to me now.

This is why it has been so important for us at Cancer Focus NI to develop a level of meaningful care and support for individuals and their families navigating a cancer diagnosis.
