'The vast majority' of incidents were in Northampton and Kettering
Flash floods affected towns and villages across Northamptonshire last night, August 16, as torrential rain marked an end to the heatwave. Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service dealt with 27 incidents of flooding, with almost half occurring in Kettering alone.
The downpour affected West Northamptonshire and Northampton first, between 8pm and just after 8.30pm. One fire engine and crews were called to Rothersthorpe Road in Northampton at 8.08pm to dig a ditch to divert running water away from a house.Other crews were called to Harlestone Road at 8.34pm, to remove water from a property and isolate the electrics.
Kettering was the worst affected with 13 separate incidents between 9pm and midnight. There was also one incident in Corby and a further incident in Raunds during this time.At NorthantsLive we're more than just news. Group Manager Ro Cutler said: “The recent hot weather and dry conditions means that the ground is finding it very difficult to absorb water at the moment – so there was always a possibility of flash flooding when heavy rainfall was forecast and it’s something we have been well prepared for.
