AuroraWatchUK has alerted keen skygazers that a beautiful display is likely to be seen tonight
The Northern Lights could be making a rare appearance in Scotland's skies, as a red alert has been issued for this evening.
The red alert is AuroraWatchUK's highest signal, so keen stargazers should be turn their eyes upwards for a chance to see the Aurora Borealis. For the best chance of catching a glimpse, it's best to travel to an area without any light pollution. They're best seen in a completely dark sky, so trying to see them in a city with lots of light may not be possible.
The beautiful waves of light are caused by electrically charged particles from space zooming into the Earth's atmosphere at incredibly high speeds.
