It's going to be such a great day
A colourful rainbow reflecting the diversity of Nottingham will descend on the city at the annual Pride march this Saturday, July 29. Thousands of people from the county's LGBTQ+ community will be taking part, with organisers hoping to smash last year's 8,000-strong turnout, which included drag queens, children and even pet dogs.
Tim, who lives in The Park with his husband Didier, added: "I love Pride, it’s our opportunity to celebrate the journey we, as a community with our lovely allies, have been on to increase and improve the rights we deserve as human beings. We march because even in the UK we still see, hear about and experience discrimination and news articles about intolerance and abuse.
As with previous years, the region's biggest free Pride event will kick off with the march at 11am, starting at Albert Street , around the city to its home in Hockley. Stalls in George Street and Goose Gate will have representatives from grassroots community groups, charities, organisations and staff networks who offer services, support and information to LGBTQ+ people.
New for 2023 is an event for families with younger children at Lace Market Square, St Mary’s Gate, delivered by Troy Jenkinson from 2pm. A place to sit away from the crowds, there will be picnic tables and additional toilets.
