Notts County became the first founder members of the EFL to be relegated from it in 2019, but after a chaotic period they’re on the mend.Forest may have slumped to the bottom of the top flight, but it hasn’t all been bad news so far on the football front this season for the city of Nottingham. The Premier League side have reacted to speculation concerning the future of manager Steve Cooper by agreeing a new contract that will – in theory, at least – tie him to the club until 2025.

It was a relegation that ended a decade which started with one of the most curious episodes in the history of football club ownership in this country. Eriksson, who it had been suggested was on £2m a year, lasted until February 2010. But by that time Munto Finance had long gone, and the bills were starting to mount up.

The truth of that Notts County takeover turned out to be stranger than fiction. Convicted fraudster Russell King had founded a company called Swiss Commodity Holding in 2009, which claimed to have assets of two trillion dollars besides the rights to all the gold, iron ore and coal in North Korea.

A successful run throughout the latter stages of that season pulled them clear of the relegation places, but this only proved to be a stay of execution.
