Campaigners are calling for an immediate public vote on the proposed nuclear waste storage facility at Theddlethorpe after it was taken off a council agenda last week.
The UK Government, along with Nuclear Waste Services, is currently looking at Theddlethorpe's former gas terminal for a GDF , which will be used to store the nation's legacy and future high-level radioactive waste. Council Leader Councillor Craig Leyland announced the decision to the Full Council, explaining that the matter would be revisited after further legal advice. The campaigners claimed East Lindsey District Council and Lincolnshire County - as 'relevant principal local authorities' in the GDF process and members of the Community Partnership - had the power to 'withdraw from the process' and decide if and when to hold a test of public support' .
