Manchester City have late transfer window interest in Wolves' Matheus Nunes and Crystal Palace forward Eberechi Eze.
12 months ago, Manchester City played Newcastle early on in the Premier League season, and Pep Guardiola came away from St. James' Park deciding that his team needed another defender.
Almost a year to the day that City drew with Newcastle, they narrowly beat Eddie Howe's side on Saturday night. The defence is sorted now, but Guardiola appears to have decided that his midfield options need strengthening this summer.Kevin De Bruyne is out until next year, while captain Ilkay Gundogan has left. Mateo Kovacic has replaced him, and has started well, but can't do all of the same things that Gundogan and De Bruyne can at the same time.
So it makes sense that Guardiola will have looked at his options and decided to tell City to make 'important decisions' this week in the transfer market. Winger Jeremy Doku will arrive to add that width again, while City have late interest in Wolves midfielder Matheus Nunes and Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze.
If Eze arrives, he would presumably offer a more attacking threat, likely competing with Foden for minutes at No.10 or pushing Foden out wide. Eze also has the option to play wide, reducing the load on Jack Grealish or Bernardo . Kovacic may be needed to anchor the midfield and support Rodri, rather than looking forward.
