Hardly the impact the striker would have wanted at the start of what is likely to be a pivotal season of his time with the Reds. Cue delirium as the Liverpool bench rose to their feet as players and coaching staff embraced as, yards away, Newcastle assistant manager Jason Tindall – who had put his finger to his lips in the direction of Jurgen Klopp during one first-half flashpoint – remained strangely silent.
