Instead of undertaking basic checks, she attempted to conceal her misdemeanours
A Lancashire nurse has been sanctioned after failing to look after a patient, using past information to cover their tracks, a Nursing and Midwifery Council Fitness to Practise Committee report concluded.
Instead of undertaking these basic checks, Ms Isherwood attempted to conceal her misdemeanours and copied the information from checks to the patient that had occurred one year previous, in January 2020.Ms Isherwood joined the NMC register in September 2008 and became employed by the East District Nursing Team at Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust in November 2013.
This incident happened when the patient in question was admitted to Royal Blackburn Hospital for a wound on his hand. The patient died on 4 March 2016 as a result of septicaemia, four days after Ms Isherwood was made aware of a pressure sore in the sacal area but failed to take the appropriate steps to ensure the patient received the treatment they required. Subsequently, the nurse was given a 12-month conditions of practice order.
The report regarding Ms Isherwood's misdemeanours, was published onto the Nursing and Midwifery Council's website, following a hearing that ran from February 6 to 13. It explained that a panel heard live evidence from a number of witnesses involved in the incident, including the nurse's colleagues. On 31 March 2021, Ms Isherwood admitted to copying information from a previous assessment and apologised for doing so.
