Ofsted has refused to remove one-word ratings despite vowing to change its school inspections system This decision comes after a headteacher killed herself when her school was downgraded to 'inadequate'
Ofsted has pledged to change itsinspections system after a headteacher killed herself when her ‘outstanding’ school was downgraded to ‘inadequate’.
The late teacher’s sister, Julia Waters, accused the body of ‘marking its own homework’ and failing to produce a ‘meaningful response’. Ms Perry, 53, was found dead in January after learning her school, Caversham Primary in Reading, would be knocked down from Ofsted’s top rating to its worst. Problem included older children being allowed to misbehave ‘unnoticed’ during playtimes, putting ‘others at risk of harm’.Ms Spielman defended Ofsted’s emphasis on safeguarding, which she said is ‘so important’ that it can result in a school being graded inadequate ‘even if everything else is done well’.
