Frank Rothwell rowed across the ocean in 2021 - now he's promised to do it again to raise £1m for Alzheimer's research

The 73-year-old adventure-seeking owner of Oldham Athletic has announced he will row 3,000 miles across the Atlantic for a second time to raise money for research into dementia.

He made the announcement while seated in his rowing boat - which he has renamed 'For A Cure' - at Oldham's ground, Boundary Park. "I don’t want others to go through it, so I am determined to help Alzheimer’s Research UK change lives. I’ve renamed my boat 'For A Cure,’ because that’s what I’m racing for. I’m racing to end the heartbreak of dementia. I would be incredibly grateful to anyone who is able to support me by donating."

Anyone who wants to donate can visit his JustGiving page which says: "Because if nothing changes, one in two of us will be directly affected by dementia – either by developing the condition ourselves, caring for someone with it, or both. Iceland Foods Charitable Foundation has vowed to match the first £100,000 of donations, repeating a similar pledge for Frank's 2021 row.
