Lincolnshire County Council has been ordered to pay compensation and apologise after mishandling a mother's request for additional education travel support for her temporarily disabled child.
The council's policy states that transport may be temporarily provided for a student who develops a temporary medical condition which prevents them from walking, cycling, or taking the bus. The council's missteps included sending an email to Mrs X's old email address and failing to clearly set out the post-16 transport payment process.
In response to Mrs X's formal complaint, the council acknowledged its failings, apologised to Mrs X, and confirmed it has a 3-year transformation programme to address its failings.
