England's players and manager Sarina Wiegman reflect on an incredible tournament that ends in heartbreak with 1-0 loss to Spain
“We came off the pitch holding our heads high, knowing that we have given absolutely everything in the game. In the second half especially, we left it all out there.
“But I think we can be proud. The last nine weeks [including camps], seven games – to wear a silver [medal], it’s special. “People don’t realise how difficult it is mentally. You don’t know how emotionally draining something like this can be. It’s taking time, reflecting on it, being proud of it. “It’s huge for everyone: past, present and future. Every single player strives to win a World Cup, that’s what your main ambition is. We got so close, it’s invaluable experience for some of the youngsters, some of us who are a little bit less experienced. We’re nothing but proud, and nothing but happy with our achievement.”Lucy Bronze vowed she has no plans to retire from England duty after suffering a third successive World Cup heartbreak.
