One person missing in sea near Clacton Pier after five die during heatwave 🔴 People have been urged to avoid swimming during the current heatwave
Lifeboat rescue services have been sent to Clacton Pier in Essex following reports of a missing person A swimmer is missing at sea and five others have been pulled from the water close to Clacton Pier in Essex, the Coastguard said.
Nigel Brown, communications manager for Clacton Pier, said the current “dragged” a group towards the pier.: “They seem to have got caught in the tide and the currents off the beach and drifted towards the pier and once you get under the pier you have the rip currents.”He said: “The group that were in the water were very worried about one person they couldn’t see and were saying, ‘There’s one missing’.
A spokesman said: “We are on the scene assisting emergency services colleagues with a serious and ongoing incident close to Clacton Pier.
