A DCMS source said: “The Online Safety Bill will apply to search services and all companies that allow users to post content online or to interact with each other. This also applies to companies whose services are used in the UK but are not based here.” The amendment is also aimed at tackling material from fake accounts set up by individuals or groups acting on behalf of foreign states to influence democratic or legal processes, such as elections and court proceedings, or spread hacked information to undermine democratic institutions.
