🚴 A bike loan scheme designed to get more people cycling received only four successful applications and cost the Scottish Government £145,000 to run

Figures published following a Freedom of Information request show that the Access Bikes Scheme, which ran from September last year until February, received almost no interest. , Active Travel Minister Patrick Harvie said he “looked forward to the success of the scheme” and promised that other similar initiatives would follow.show that only four people were issued with loans totalling £1,804 over the six months in which the scheme was in operation.
The Scottish Conservatives, who submitted the Freedom of Information request, described the scheme as “an embarrassing and expensive flop”, with “Tour de France levels of spending”.
