A father of two whose third child is due in a month was killed in the shooting that has sent shockwaves through Maine, as the suspect remains at large
A heartshaped sign is seen attached to a tree, following a deadly mass shooting in Lewiston, Maine Witnesses to Wednesday’s attack at a bowling alley and bar recounted the terror in their children’s faces as they realised they were trapped, while heartbroken families mourned the relatives they had lost, including a father of two with another “baby on the way”.
Lewiston, a former textile hub of 38,000 people, and neighbouring communities were largely shut down on Thursday to enable hundreds of officers to conduct their search. His sister, Courtney Hathaway, shared the news of her “big brother’s” death on Facebook, saying: “Nothing really prepares you for the sudden and shocking loss of a loved one, especially when it happens in such a tragedy.”
Police circulated photographs of a bearded man in a brown hooded sweatshirt and jeans at one of the crime scenes armed with what appeared to be a semi-automatic rifle.
