Willie Stafford has slammed his former employers 😳
A former employee at Glasgow's St Enoch Hotel has accused bosses of 'playing with lives' by ignoring a report which, it is claimed, warned asbestos may have been present at the accommodation.
Former maintenance manager Willie worked for the St Enoch in 2020, when it was undergoing renovations in areas where one survey firm believed asbestos was present. He was dismissed after telling management that moving the cancerous materials could be fatal for residents. Willie said: “The hotel was undergoing a big renovation connected to all the work coming in for homeless services at Glasgow City Council, which was making them a fortune.
Willie said after he raised his concerns in January 2020, he was told by management the first survey company had fraudulently charged £6,000 for a report it never delivered. He said the surveyors had angrily denied the claims. “If that is correct it begs the question as to what exactly happened in the meantime. If asbestos was removed without evacuating the hotel, prior to a second company doing a new report, that could be risking the lives of staff and residents. If asbestos remains in the hotel, that would also be something to raise concern.”
