BREAKING: The Carolina Panthers have fired coach Matt Rhule, the team announced. The Panthers are 1-4 this season, and they are 11-27 since hiring Rhule in 2020.
Assistant coach Steve Wilks has been named interim head coach.Rhule, 47, joined Carolina ahead of the 2020 season after serving as the head coach of Baylor University from 2017 to 2019. Rhule guided Baylor to an 11-3 record and appearance in the Big 12 Championship and Sugar Bowl in his final season at the helm of the program.
While Rhule turned around two college programs — Temple and Baylor — in his third seasons at the school, he struggled to find similar success in Carolina.
