Parents have been urged by the NHS to vaccinate their children amid a surge in serious flu cases among children under five.
Figures from NHS England reveal flu hospitalisations are nearly 20 times as high in comparison to this time last year.
Uptake in children aged two to three is down 9% on last year, with just 35% in the age group receiving the jab. NHS national director of vaccinations and screening Steve Russell said: ‘With almost 18 million jabs already administered, our flu vaccination programme continues to make great strides in protecting the public, but it is vital we make sure no group falls behind.
