Eva Kaili, a Greek MEP, has been stripped of her role as a European Parliament vice-president, and expelled from the PASOK party, over the scandal IN BRUSSELS – The Italian boyfriend of charged MEP Eva Kaili has admitted to the Belgian authorities that he took bribes from both Qatar and Morocco – while pleading for his partner to be released to look after their child.
Mr Giorgi, an assistant to an Italian MEP, also claimed Ms Kaili’s father was caught trying to escape with a suitcase full of cash as she had just learned about it and was trying to get it out of their home. He apologised for the scandal in front of Brussels magistrates and said that Ms Kaili wasn’t involved.
On Tuesday, Ms Kaili, a Greek MEP, was stripped of her role as a European Parliament vice-president over the scandal.The 44-year-old was a vocal defender of World Cup host Qatar, and recently called the country a “frontrunner in labour rights”, despite concerns about conditions for stadium construction workers.
