Paul O’Grady’s eulogy was apparently an ‘X-rated’ affair and had to be censored before comedian Julian Clary left mourners in stitches with a version of 'Blankety Blank'.
However, it wasn’t a completely sombre affair after Clary warned attendees that his speech would have some expletives.
But acknowledging the fact he was in a church, he made sure not to drop the actual words he had planned, and instead replaced the cursing with ‘blanks’.Mourners were then said to have ‘played their very own game of Blankety Blank’, much to their delight.: ‘It was amusing and caused a lot of laughter.’
He added: ‘He started it by saying because it was in a church he wouldn’t be using any swear words so he amused everybody by putting a lot of “blanks” in. ‘There were lots of blanks in amongst the words he said. He was telling stories about his time with Paul O’Grady and he obviously had a great time with him and he was very fond of him.’The Reverend Canon Roger Martin described the eulogy as ‘very entertaining’.Did you tune into the replay of the Blankety Blank episode?
First hitting screens in 1979, comedy game show Blankety Blank was revived in 1997, with Lily Savage at the helm.in which Lily cheerfully ribbed celebrity guest stars including the likes of Sir Ian McKellen and Davina McCall.
