A pedestrian has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a HGV on the M66 last night .
The pedestrian was said to have sustained "serious" injuries and was taken to hospital where they remain. No further details about their identity or condition have been released at this stage.GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit have now launched an investigation, and are appealing to anyone who might have witnessed the collision - or have footage - to come forward.
Drivers were subject to major delays and diversions had to be put in place - as the scale of the incident meant that both sides of the motorway had to be closed for some time. In a statement, GMP said: "GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit appeal for information following a road traffic collision on the Northbound carriageway of the M66.
