Plans to make the street completely car-free were shared recently
Readers have voted in favour of Castle Street being pedestrianised as they say plans to do so make 'perfect sense'.
We put it to our readers in a poll which has now ended, with a vast majority voting in favour of the street becoming completely pedestrianised. 72% of ECHO readers who took the poll voted in favour of the plans, with only 25% voting against and 3% voting 'other'.
“It wasn’t just cars, the restaurants were unpacking and unloading. Now you get days like this where the atmosphere is great. It’s not just filled with cars.” “You can see now people just walking so casually down the middle of the road. It makes for a better atmosphere because you haven’t got the noise and the beeping.”
