One resident claimed that laughter is 'the secret to staying young'

A group of pensioners in Thornliebank have been awarded for “growing old disgracefully” after pranking the nation with a hilarious April Fool’s day campaign.

Earlier this year, residents at Renaissance Care's Whitecraigs home staged the Scotland’s Strongest Pensioner Championships which saw them take photos during fake training exercises.Irene and Yvonne Inspired by the World’s Strongest Man competition, the group appeared to take on challenges including a ‘Vehicle Pull’ and ‘Hercules Hold’ as well as heavy deadlifts.Care home resident Robert Roy, 81, joined in with the joke and said: “We had a great laugh lifting the fake weights and pretending to pull the mini-van along for our April Fools’ Day joke.

“We are all really competitive and have been joking about who is the strongest, so we wanted to have a little fun."We love to have a laugh in the home, it’s the secret to keeping young.”Following the stunt, the residents have been recognised at the NAPA Awards which celebrate those who “live life to the fullest and maintain a zest for life in their older age”.
