The council says it was left with 'little choice' but to consider selling the land.
People living near an Arnold nature reserve say it could end up "strangulated" by housing developments after the local council changed its mind on selling nearby land off. Gedling Borough Council first consulted with residents about selling land off Killisick Lane in August last year, after which it halted the plans.
On the finance question, the Leader of Gedling Borough Council, Councillor John Clarke, said at the meeting: "The need to meet housing requirements was the council's key objective for allocating this land, and not to increase the value of the public asset." Mr Stewart had also raised concerns about the perceived lack of consultation directly with Mike Hill, the Chief Executive of Gedling Borough Council, who responded in an email by saying: "The local plan and development brief for the land off Killisick Lane were both consulted upon, indeed the local plan was subject to public examination by the Planning Inspectorate.
"We want to be more involved in the discussions about these serious issues and we want to help, but at the moment local residents are just seen as a blocker." Other concerns include the impact on the bridleway and the fact that the additional sale of the land would open up the wider area for development.
